Paving The Way to a New Path

forest path that can lead to a better future with new things ahead

by Laurie Richardone

The beginning of the new year can be the time we aspire for new challenges. Whether it is starting a new business, relationship, or wanting to have better health.

I believe the most significant question to ask, when starting something, or taking a new path is why?

Knowing the why behind choosing to do something sets us up for success. It supports us to go the distance in creating something new because our heart is in it. However, even if the passion is there, starting something new can feel daunting. Yet, exciting.

I believe it is because we are thinking of the many things we have to do, in order to get to where we want to go, in addition to having that thing we desire. There are some elements that would be beneficial to put in place to have a smooth journey.

For example:

• Is my desire strong enough?

• Shifting our perspective from what we have to do, to who we have to be; it will encourage us to be more open to the tasks ahead.

• Keep it in the present moment. It creates some space and takes the pressure off.

I have discovered that taking consistent simple actions have helped pave the way to a new vision. Remember, it is a journey. It can change. And, it’s ok to pivot.

I find, when I ask myself questions like what am I passionate about at this time in my life, and identifying what that is, has allowed me to take a turn and travel a new path.

• Stay open, flexible, and pay attention to opportunities.

• Know your strengths and limitations, and learn how to delegate.

• Once you get clarity around something, ask the universe for help.

Oftentimes we run into people that could be of support. It doesn’t have to be hard; however, it does take some courage. Stepping into the unknown can feel frightening before it morphs into that which we strive for.

So how do we set ourselves up for success?

Reduce complexity - Take simple steps that you know are realistic, given your personality, or the way you learn new things.

One of the traps to moving in a new direction is, we compare ourselves to others. Comparison is the thief of Joy.

And remember …there is no one who does what you do in the way you do it!

I would like to close with a paraphrase from Carlos Castaneda’s book. The Teachings of Don Juan….

Anything is one of a million paths. Therefore, you must keep in mind that a path is only a path. If you feel you should not follow it, you must not stay with it under any conditions. There is no affront to oneself, or to others, in dropping it if that is what your heart tells you to do.

Ask the question? Does this path have a heart? If it does then the path is a good one, if it doesn’t, then it is of no use. And know that all paths lead to nowhere.

Wishing you a fruitful journey in 2024
