Apple Pie for Lazy People

Baking an apple galette is one of the most satisfying cooking experiences that anyone can have in their kitchen.

It is a dessert that is not only easy to make, but also incredibly versatile. The dish can be served as a breakfast treat, a dessert, or even a snack. While galettes can be made with a variety of fruits, this recipe specifically focuses on baking an apple galette.

To start, you will need to prepare the various components of the dish. First, you need to make the pastry dough. You can either make your own pastry dough from scratch or use a store-bought one.

However, if you choose to go the homemade route, it will take a little more time and effort, but it is definitely worth it.

To make the pastry dough, you will need flour, sugar, salt, unsalted butter, and water. Begin by whisking the dry ingredients together in a bowl. Then, cut the butter into small cubes and add it to the bowl.

Using your hands, work the butter into the flour mixture until it resembles coarse sand. Once this is done, add enough ice-cold water to bring the dough together. Work the dough until it forms a ball. Then, wrap it in plastic wrap and refrigerate it for at least an hour.

Next, prepare the apple filling. You will need peeled and thinly sliced apples, brown sugar, cinnamon, nutmeg, vanilla extract, a pinch of salt, and lemon juice. In a large mixing bowl, combine the sliced apples, brown sugar, cinnamon, nutmeg, vanilla extract, salt, and lemon juice.

Mix everything together until the apples are coated in the sugar and spices. Once this is done, set the filling aside for a while.

Now it’s time to put everything together. Preheat your oven to 375 degrees Fahrenheit. Take your pastry dough out of the refrigerator and roll it out on a floured surface until it is about a quarter inch thick.

Place the dough on a baking sheet lined with parchment paper. Arrange the apple slices in a circular pattern in the center of the dough, leaving about an inch of space around the edges.

Fold the edges of the dough over the filling, creating pleats as you go. The center of the apple galette should remain exposed. Brush the edges of the dough with an egg wash and sprinkle some granulated sugar over it.

This will give the galette a nice golden color and add a little crunch to the crust. Then, put the galette in the oven and bake it for 45-50 minutes or until the crust is golden brown.

Once the galette is done, take it out of the oven and let it cool for at least 10 minutes. Then, slice it and serve it warm with a scoop of vanilla ice cream. The combination of warm, flaky crust and tender, cinnamon-spiced apples is pure heaven.

Baking an apple galette is a simple yet impressive dessert that is perfect for any occasion. With a little bit of preparation and patience, you can create a delicious treat that will impress your friends and family.

Whether you serve it for breakfast, dessert, or as a snack, an apple galette is sure to be a crowd-pleaser. So, try making one today, and you’ll see why it’s one of the most satisfying desserts you’ll ever bake!
