Selecting gifts, while the task can be joyful, is almost always baffling. There is so much to consider. And the problems become visible when presenting gifts to a group, including neighbors and club members, that know each other.

Individual, well considered gifts for each recipient in the group is certainly a laudable goal, but you risk so many pitfalls.

Did you spend more on one than the others? Did you show favoritism? Did you make a pronoun, personality or political mistake that you did not even know you were making?

We suggest you give everyone the same gift. A $20 bottle of wine from Metro Wines. The price, and someone will find out, says you value their friendship but does not leave the recipient asking if they spent enough on your gift.

And the Metro Wines label on the gift bag says you did not shop at big box. You went to a specialty store. Let’s get going.

We are set on the price, $20. But now what varietal? The best choice here is to go with the grape most people prefer and that most people not only give but hope to receive as a gift.

Cabernet Sauvignon is king world-wide and has been the preference for the holidays at Metro Wines since we opened the doors 13 years ago.

But, you say, there are hundreds of bottles of Cabernet Sauvignon to consider. Which one? We suggest 2022 Double Canyon, Horse Heaven Hills, from the Columbia Valley in Washington State.

This bottle says you put some thought into your choice. You didn’t just pick up the first $20 Cabernet Sauvignon from California you saw on the shelf. You considered your options, you talked to the staff, you shopped for something special!

Double Canyon leads with 92% Cabernet Sauvignon but is blended with 5% Malbec and 3% Carmenere. The wine is garnet in the glass with aromas of black cherries dusted with cocoa powder and baking spices laced with hints of plums and dried earth.

Medium body with flavors of black raspberries and currants and a lingering finish of fruit and leather. Double Canyon 2022 is ready to pour now or can be held for 5 years.

And if a recipient searches Double Canyon, they will find that Washington State is not a typical wine region. Ancient geological activity created a unique area for growing Cabernet Sauvignon.

The soil is a mix of volcanic ash, ancient glacial deposits, and desert sand, imparting a mineral complexity rarely found. Washington State has long been considered the best producer of quality to value wines.

Proving the point, Double Canyon was awarded 90 points by noted wine expert and critic, James Suckling.

Buy a case. That brings your bottle price down to $16.99. And Metro Wines offers complimentary gift wrap for every bottle. Now, sit back and enjoy the season.
